Rwandan singer Ingabire Marina Deborah has explained why she continues to perform songs of the late rapper Jay Polly during her concerts, saying it is her way of honoring his lasting impact on her music journey.
She made the remarks after performing at the MTN Iwacu Muzika Festival held in Ngoma District, where she entertained a large crowd of fans who warmly received her performance.
Marina said Jay Polly holds a special place in her heart, not only because they once collaborated on music, but also because she had been a big fan of his long before they worked together. She described their collaboration as a dream come true.
She added that whenever she prepares for a show, she always feels that at least one of Jay Polly’s songs must be included in her setlist as a way of preserving his legacy and honoring his contribution to the Rwandan music industry.
Marina also expressed her happiness about how she was received by fans in Ngoma, saying her performance went exactly as planned thanks to proper preparation with her team.
She further explained that she chose comfortable and vibrant outfits for the show to allow her to perform freely and energetically, unlike a previous concert where her outfit restricted her movement on stage.
Marina concluded by saying that performing in front of large crowds was once her childhood dream, and she is grateful to have turned it into reality while continuing to celebrate artists who shaped the industry like Jay Polly.
