A Rwandan proverb says, “Count yourself lucky if you survived the night.” This saying aptly reflects the journey of Gisa cy’Inganzo, who lived through what he describes as a self-destructive period marked by drug abuse.
The good news is that he managed to overcome the addiction. Today, Gisa cy’Inganzo has returned to music and is using his experience to warn others about the dangers of substance abuse.The singer spoke about his new life during an interview with IGIHE while promoting his latest single, Birabareba, produced by KINA Music.The song was written for him by Ishimwe Clement of KINA Music. The pair recently revealed that they have completed two additional tracks, which are expected to be released in the near future.
Having spent years struggling to break free from drug addiction, Gisa said he is grateful to God for helping him recover, admitting that there was a time when he wished his life would come to an end.“There was a point when I wanted to die. I once prayed to God, asking Him to take my life rather than let me continue living that way. When you see how people treat you and you feel unable to escape your situation, you lose direction and begin to think death might be the only solution.”
After overcoming addiction, Gisa says he is now focused on reclaiming the time he lost.“I lost a significant part of my life, and recovering it requires effort emotionally, spiritually and physically. It is possible to go through difficult experiences and still become a stronger person, but I cannot deny that valuable time was lost. What helped me recover was my determination to change, combined with God’s strength and the blessing of having good advisers around me.”
The artist explained that one of his priorities now is avoiding situations that could lead him back into addiction.“With all due respect, there are some people I no longer spend time with. I no longer involve myself in things that bring me no value because I do not use intoxicating substances anymore. I am focused on opportunities that can help me make up for lost time and continue rebuilding the trust I am earning from Rwandans.”
Gisa strongly advised young people to stay away from drugs, describing them as a path towards death.“My message to young people who are still involved in drug abuse is simple: run away before it is too late. There is death down that road. I was fortunate that God rescued me, but others should not wait until they reach that point.”
He added that it is extremely difficult to progress in life while abusing drugs.“Drug abuse does not help you develop discipline, good manners or humility, and today’s world is moving very fast. Sometimes I sit and think about young people going through the same struggles I faced, and I feel compelled to tell them to make the decision to walk away from that path.”
Gisa also assured his fans that he will never disappoint them again. He said his main focus now is producing more quality music and restoring the confidence that his supporters once had in him.
