Rwandan music icon Butera Knowless has credited the people of Muhanga District for playing a crucial role in one of the biggest milestones of her music career, saying their support helped her win the fifth edition of the Primus Guma Guma Super Star Season 5.
The award-winning singer made the remarks after delivering a thrilling performance during the latest stop of the MTN Iwacu Muzika Festival 2026 at Muhanga Stadium on Saturday, July 4, 2026.
Organized by East African Promoters (EAP) in partnership with MTN Rwanda, the festival attracted thousands of music lovers who gathered to enjoy performances from some of Rwanda’s biggest artists.
Knowless shared the stage with Kivumbi King, Amalon, Ross Kana, Marina, Davis D, Kenny Sol and Chriss Eazy, with each artist entertaining the packed crowd throughout the evening.
Wearing a sparkling black outfit complemented by a white inner shirt, Knowless opened her performance with her hit song “Sweet Mutima,” instantly sending the audience into excitement as fans sang along to every lyric.
After the concert, Knowless expressed her appreciation for the reception she received from the people of Muhanga.
“Everything happened exactly as I expected. Muhanga was amazing. The fans responded to every performance, we danced, jumped, and sang together. It was truly an incredible experience,” Knowless said.
She explained that Muhanga will always have a special place in her heart because of the role its residents played during her campaign in Primus Guma Guma Super Star Season 5, a competition that largely depended on public votes.
“This district is the reason I won Primus Guma Guma Super Star,” she said.
Knowless’ remarks highlighted her gratitude to the fans who supported her throughout the competition, which remains one of the defining achievements of her career.
One of the biggest highlights of the night came when she invited rapper Fireman onto the stage to perform their timeless hit “Bafana Bafana.” The surprise performance delighted fans who had long hoped to see the two artists reunite on stage.
Explaining why she invited Fireman to perform alongside her, Knowless said, “He is my friend, and I have great respect for him.”
The reunion brought back memories for many music lovers, as “Bafana Bafana” remains one of the most celebrated collaborations in Rwanda’s music history.
The Muhanga edition of MTN Iwacu Muzika Festival once again demonstrated Knowless’ enduring popularity and influence in Rwanda’s music industry. Her songs continue to connect with audiences of all ages, while her appreciation for loyal fans remains one of the defining qualities of her career.
