A 24-year-old man named Clinton Mwesiime was arrested by Ugandan police after he confessed in church to killing his girlfriend in Kabale District last month.
In July, Mwesiime, who worked at Hamurwa Health Centre in the Rubanda area, went with his girlfriend, Loenada Kobusingye, to a lodge called Cheers in Kabale, where they spent the night together. On the morning of July 30, 2025, a lodge worker found 45-year-old Kobusingye dead, with four stab wounds to her chest. A knife and a weighing scale for newborns were found next to her body. The young man had fled the scene.
On August 9, while Mwesiime was in a church in the Nakawa area of Kampala, he asked the pastor to pray for him, revealing that he had killed his girlfriend in Kabale after a disagreement. One witness at the church said, “People were giving testimonies, and this man took the microphone and calmly confessed that he had killed his girlfriend in a Kabale lodge after a disagreement. He told the congregation that he stabbed her, left her body in the room, and fled to Kampala.”
After hearing Mwesiime’s testimony and his request for prayers, the pastor immediately called the police to have him apprehended. Officers quickly arrived and took him into custody.

According to Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson Elly Maate, Mwesiime was first detained at Jinja Police Station and, on August 13, was transferred to Kabale, where the crime took place.Mwesiime told investigators that he killed Kobusingye after learning she was pregnant. He said he had asked her to terminate the pregnancy, but she refused and instead told him they should get married.
The young man also claimed he was embarrassed that people would know he had married a woman 21 years older than him and was angered upon finding out that his girlfriend was HIV-positive.Mwesiime told the congregation he killed his girlfriend after they failed to reach an understanding.
