Students from the Rwanda Defence Force Command and Staff College in Nyakinama visited the Liberation Museum at Mulindi, where they received firsthand testimonies from retired soldiers.
According to the Rwanda Defence Force website, the students who make up the 25th intake of the military leadership course toured the Rwanda Liberation Museum in Mulindi.
The study visit aimed to give them a deeper understanding of the Liberation Struggle led by the Rwandan Patriotic Army (RPA). This educational tour is one of several intended to expose them to historical sites across different parts of Rwanda where key stages of the Liberation Struggle were initiated and fought.
Learning from Rwanda’s Liberation History
The purpose of the visit was to strengthen their knowledge and leadership skills through lessons drawn from the Liberation Struggle, and to give them a broader historical perspective on the country’s path to freedom.

The students were addressed by senior retired officers who played a role in the Liberation Struggle. They shared personal testimonies, highlighting the challenges they faced and the critical military decisions that shaped the course of the war.
Key Lessons from RPA Military Strategies
The discussions focused on key factors that led to the success of the RPA, including strong leadership, discipline within the army, strategic combat planning, support from the population, and the determination and resilience of the soldiers.
The report further notes that the students will continue visiting other important historical sites linked to both the Liberation Struggle and the campaign to stop the Genocide against the Tutsi. This will help deepen their understanding of Rwanda’s history and the legacy of the struggle for liberation.
