A Kenyan woman living in Melbourne, Irene Jerotich, went viral after being accused of throwing her baby out of a bathroom window.

The incident has drawn widespread attention in both Australia and Kenya. Jerotich appeared before the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court, where she faced a charge of reckless conduct endangering life.

Videos shared online showed the 26-year-old during her court appearance. Authorities reported that in August 2024 she placed her newborn son in a plastic bag and dropped him from a bathroom window onto concrete.

Emergency Response and Court Charges

Emergency services were called to a residence in Dandenong North, Melbourne, at around 2:40 a.m. on August 30, 2024. The baby was discovered on the ground with serious injuries.

Initially, Jerotich was charged with reckless conduct endangering life and recklessly causing injury. The second charge was later dropped, and she pleaded guilty to the remaining charge.

Bail Conditions and Public Reaction

She was released on bail under strict conditions requiring her to remain in Victoria and live at a set address until her pre-sentence hearing scheduled for early 2025.

The case attracted the attention of influencer Madison King, who reacted in a video and expressed sympathy for Jerotich as the case continued to spread online.source:tuko.co.ke
